Efficiency Properties of Cerium-Doped Lanthanum Chloride (LaCl3:Ce) Single Crystal Scintillator under Radiographic X-ray Excitation

The aim of this study is to evaluate the suitability crystalline scintillator LaCl3:Ce for possible use in hybrid medical imaging systems, such as PET/CT and SPECT/CT scanners. For purpose, a single crystal (10 × 10 mm3) was irradiated by X-rays within tube voltage range from 50 150 kVp, absolute efficiency (AE) measured experimentally. energy absorption (EAE), quantum detection (QDE), spectral compatibility with various optical detectors were also calculated mathematical formulas. results compared published data Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO), Lu2SiO5:Ce (LSO), CdWO4 crystals equal dimensions, commonly used applications. luminescence values examined found be higher than those LSO, BGO, crystals, whole X-ray range. In matter EAE, demonstrated reduced performance respect LSO crystals. emission spectrum compatible types photocathodes silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). Considering these properties, could considered suitable systems.
